Why Beautiful Homes Make Us Happy

Real estate in Hong Kong is notorious for being pricey and meager. Many people simply use their apartments as a dorm room, a place to leave all of their belongings and to sleep in at the end of the day. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Even if you live in a tiny apartment, there are a multitude of ways you can organize and arrange your home to make it look and feel like your dream home.

Think about it: Have you ever stayed in a really nice hotel and wished that you could live there forever? What’s not to love about a great hotel, right? The fantastic amenities, the round-the-clock room service, and the aesthetically pleasing rooms are some of the reasons we all wish we could extend our hotel stay.

But let’s face it, amazing hotel stays don’t come cheap, and spending for a room for a long period of time just isn’t sustainable. Now imagine if your home was able to evoke the same feelings of delight and pleasure?

As humans we’re very visual creatures. We buy outfits that we think look great, we eat food with our eyes as much as our mouths, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we also want an aesthetic living space. However, there’s this misconception that you have to have a lot of money to live in an amazing-looking apartment. That’s not necessarily true. If you’re resourceful enough, you can find amazing pieces and furniture items without having to break the bank.

Many people underestimate just how important the home is to a person’s wellbeing. Our homes influence our mindsets, feed our energy, and are a safe place for self expression and identity. They provide us with security, control, belonging, and privacy. They are a place we build memories and serve as a sanctuary from all our external problems.

Imagine coming home from a long day of work. You’re tired and cranky, and just want to forget about the day. Once you enter your front door and see your own lovely living space — with its minimal yet classy design — somehow the stress of the day disappears and you’re filled with a feeling of peace and serenity.

That is what all homes should aspire to be — a beautiful space. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy, it doesn’t have to have the latest designer furniture or have to look like a perfect showroom. It just has to appeal to you. Because at the end of the day it’s about always going to be about you. How you feel and how much comfort and joy your home can bring you.
